Final fling for winter carnival
From coronations to disco dancing to death-defying ski joring stunts, Whitefish Winter Carnival has offered something for every merry maker for the last few weeks. This weekend, as the 54th annual carnival wraps up, is no exception.
Official Winter Carnival buttons are $4 each and are available at merchants around town.

Here is this weekend’s schedule of events:
Friday
6:30 p.m. — Gala dinner and dance at the Whitefish Lake Golf Club Restaurant. Tickets are $55 each and are on sale at the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce.
Saturday
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Kiddie Carnival at the Whitefish Middle School gym.
11 a.m. — Penguin Plunge at City Beach. Dress like a pirate to support the carnival’s Pirates on Parade theme, and support Special Olympics Montana. For more information, visit www.somt.org.
1 p.m. — Pie social at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 230 Baker Ave.
3 p.m. — Grand parade in downtown Whitefish.
4:30 p.m. (or whenever the parade ends) — Black Star Beer Barter. What would you do or trade for a year’s supply of Black Star Beer? Tell Great Northern Brewery and be entered to win 52 cases of Black Star Beer. Register your barter submission beginning at 11 a.m. until just before the barter begins at Railway and Central avenues.
7 p.m. — Torchlight parade and fireworks on Ed’s Run at Whitefish Mountain Resort.
Sunday
8 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Rotary Pancake Breakfast at the Whitefish Moose Lodge. Tickets are $8 each. Enjoy a hearty breakfast and support the Rotary Club of Whitefish.
The Whitefish International Hockey Tournament, featuring teams from the United States and Canada, is also going on all weekend at Stumptown Ice Den. Call 863-2477 for more information.
