Classes for adults at Hockaday
The Hockaday Museum of Art offers classes for adults this summer.
Soon Y. Warren teaches two classes this summer.
The first, Vibrant Painting in Watercolor, takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 31 through Aug. 2.
Learn to use glazing and washing techniques to create luminous brilliant colors in paintings. Color theory, composition, color values and organizing the painting process will be incorporated into this studio workshop.
Cost is $360 for museum members, or $385 for nonmembers.
Vibrant Painting in Oils will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 5 through 7.
In this plein air oil painting workshop, a variety of outdoor locations will be used. The day will begin with a demonstration. After the demo, artists have plenty of time to paint while Warren provides individual instruction.
Discussion will focus on the concepts of color theory and color relationships to create a successful painting. Artists will learn how to create vibrant colors to change the mood of a painting.
Each day will finish with a critique of student work.
Cost is $360 for members, or $385 for nonmembers.
Newly added is a Japanese ink painting class, Sumi-e for Beginners, taught by Brenda Kasani from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 22.
The classic painting style of Japan will be introduced in this course, perfectly suited for those with any level of art experience. Strokes build on one another, so after learning the basics, students will be able to produce elegant bamboo, flowers and more.
Students must bring a 11- by 14-inch or larger pad of newsprint. All other materials will be provided.
The class is $40 for museum members or $45 for nonmembers.
