'Organic' art show at Bigfork museum

Whatever your age, chances are Camas Creek Yarn offers a class for you this summer. Elizabeth Sproul will teach youth felting, knitting and crocheting classes. Paula Rindal will teach silk-dyeing and felting sessions.

Following are this summer’s youth offerings:

 

Felted Flathead cherry or huckleberry purse

Elizabeth Sproul teaches this class from 11 a.m. to noon July 10, July 24, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21. The class is $20 per session and is open to children ages 8 and older.

Embellish a little purse with flathead cherries or huckleberries. Learn how to do flat felting.

 

Felted meadowlark

Sproul teaches this class from 10:30 a.m. to noon July 12, July 26, Aug. 9 and Aug. 23. Cost is $20 per session; the class is for youths ages 12 and older.

Learn how to make a three-dimensional felted meadowlark and how to needlefelt onto a plastic foam ball in this class.

 

Beginning knitting

Sproul teaches this class from 10:30 a.m. to noon July 15, 22 and 29. Cost is $20, and the class is for children ages 10 and older.

Learn how to cast on, knit, and cast off. At the end of the class, students will have a purse.

 

Beginning crochet

Sproul teaches this class from 10:30 a.m. to noon July 16, 23 and 30. Cost is $20, and the class is open to children ages 10 and older.

Learn how to chain and single crochet. At the end of the class, students will have a purse.

 

Felted animal track coaster

Sproul teaches this class from 11 a.m. to noon July 17, July 31, Aug. 14 and Aug. 28. Cost is $20 per session; the class is open to children 8 and older.

Make a coaster with an animal track on it, and see if your parents can guess what it is. Learn how to do flat felting.

 

Felted mountain goat Christmas ornament

Sproul teaches this class from 10:30 a.m. to noon July 19, Aug. 2, Aug. 16 and Aug. 30. Cost is $20 per session; the class is for youths 12 and older.

Make a three-dimensional mountain goat Christmas ornament and learn how to needlefelt onto a plastic foam ball.

The Magic of Dyeing: Silk Fabric

Paula Rindal teaches this class from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 13 and will offer a second session from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 20. The cost is $38; no previous experience is necessary.

In this fun class, students will learn how to dye silk three ways: ice hot water and baggies. Create three pieces of dyed art large enough to use in the next nuno scarf class.

 

The Magic of Felt: Nuno Felted Scarf

Rindal teaches this class from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 14 and will offer a second session from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 21. Cost is $38, and priority enrollment will be given to the students who took Rindal’s dyeing class.

In this class, students will learn the art of nuno felting. Work with the Habotai silk dyed in the previous class to make a beautiful scarf.
