The climber who fell to his death in Glacier National Park Tuesday has been identified as 21-year-old Cesar Flores Jr. from Davie, Fla.

This was his first year working for park concession contractor Glacier Park Inc. Flores was a cook at the Many Glacier Hotel.

According to the initial investigation and witness reports, it’s believed that Flores lost his balance near the edge of a cliff on Apikuni Mountain and fell about 1,000 feet to his death.

Park rangers discovered the body at about 6 p.m. The body was recovered with the assistance of a short-haul helicopter rescue team from Parks Canada.

Flores was climbing with three other Glacier Park Inc. employees who departed from the Many Glacier area for Apikuni Mountain at about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.
