HAVRE — The Glacier League All-Star Team captured the Montana State 13-year-old Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament title Sunday afternoon by beating rival Kalispell 7-4.
Glacier came into the final day with a 3-0 record after defeating Helena 15-3, Glendive 15-5 and Kalispell 3-2.
Kalispell battled back through the losers’ bracket on the final day to face Glacier in the championship game. Kalispell won the first game 5-4, forcing a second title contest in the double-elimination event.
Hunter Watterud started on the mound for Glacier in the finale and went two innings. Jackson Marciniak pitched one inning and Skylar Warner pitched the last four innings.
Kalispell led 1-0 after two innings, but Glacier went up for good 2-1 in the third inning.
Glacier’s Logan Kolodejchuk tripled in the sixth to score Max Smyley, giving Glacier a 7-3 advantage.
Kalispell threatened in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases, but Glacier’s sure-handed second baseman Austin Green turned a double play to end the inning.
“A good team effort hitting all weekend,” Glacier coach Chad Green said.
“Skylar Warner’s pitching was phenomenal. He stepped up big this weekend.”
The Glacier team consists of players from Columbia Falls and Whitefish.
“We’re pretty balanced,” coach Green said of his team.
“No superstars. Our defense was solid.”
