Alpine Theatre puts on Disney favorites

| July 17, 2013 5:00 PM

Alpine Theatre Project continues its four-week celebration of “Broadway’s Best Week by Week” with a family-friendly homage to Disney musicals performed by veteran Broadway actors from Disney shows.

“Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo: Broadway’s Family Fare” runs Friday and Saturday at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center. Both shows start at 8 p.m.

“Disney’s influence on Broadway is unmistakable,” said Betsi Morrison, Alpine Theatre’s artistic director. “Whether it’s with composers like Alan Menken or Stephen Schwartz, Disney has always had its hand in the artform. We wanted to honor those works and offer something for families this season.”

The production is a revue of Disney hits from Broadway, such as “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Mary Poppins.” It also pays homage to Disney musical animated films such as “Cinderella,” “Pocahontas” and the more recent “Tangled.”

Alpine Theatre Project has enlisted Broadway performers well-versed in these shows. These actors include Robert Creighton, who has starred in the Broadway productions of “The Lion King” and “The Little Mermaid,” and Ann Sanders, who starred as Belle in the Broadway production of “Beauty and the Beast.”

Other performers include Soara-Joye Ross, who performed in “Les Miserables” on Broadway, Rachel Prather and Alpine Theatre favorites Rebecca Spear and Luke Walrath.

Tickets to the show range from $29 to $39, with student, child and day-of rush discounts available. Purchase tickets at atpwhitefish.org or by calling 862-SHOW.
