Folk trio to play in Whitefish

| July 17, 2013 5:00 PM

Underhill Rose, the female trio known for soaring harmonies and an ability to blend bluegrass, Americana, country, blues and soul into its trademarked “heartfelt country soul” sound, launches a Montana tour July 25.

The tour includes performances at 9 p.m. July 29 at the Stonefly Lounge in Coram and 9:30 p.m. July 30 at the Great Northern Bar and Grill in Whitefish. The trio will also perform in Dillon, White Sulphur Springs, Ennis, Bozeman, Missoula and Livingston.

Underhill Rose has Montana ties. Bass player and newest band member Salley Williamson called the state home for 10 years. She earned degrees from Carroll College, Montana State University and the University of Montana during her stay.

The band also features Eleanor Underhill and Molly Rose.

The trio recently launched its sophomore album, “Something Real,” which has risen to the top 40 on the Americana Airplay chart. The album includes 13 tracks, with each band member writing at least two songs, and features the familiar harmonies Underhill Rose has become known for, now filled out with a third female voice.

Recorded in the famed Echo Mountain recording studio and with Black Lillies’ frontman Cruz Contreras serving as producer, the release features nine Asheville, N.C.-area musicians in addition to the ladies. The band recorded “Something Real” using money raised through a successful crowd-funding campaign, which generated donations from more than 300 people. Following the 38-day push, the group met 120 percent of the $15,000 goal.
