A Boy Scout was reunited with his troop after making a wrong turn on Mt. Aeneas Thursday night.

At about 7:20 p.m., a Boy Scout leader called 911 after hearing from another leader that one of the boys was missing. The boy had last been seen going down the east side of Mt. Aeneas, and at the time he was reported missing had already been gone for 20 minutes.

Along with Flathead County Search and Rescue, the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office also responded and a helicopter was dispatched. It was the helicopter that eventually located the boy.

“He took a wrong turn and ended up on the wrong side,” Search and Rescue Coordinator Brian Heino said. “We were fortunate that we were able to find him right after dark.”

Heino said the boy was found 300 feet east of the Picnic Lake Trail on the back side of Mt. Aeneas. Once he was discovered — shortly before 9 p.m. — the helicopter was able to land and pick him up, transporting him back to his group.
