Kayakers get themselves free of log jam

The Whitefish Fire Department was dispatched to the Whitefish River briefly Sunday evening after a pair of kayakers got caught up on a log jam. According to Fire Chief Tom Kennelly, neither was injured and both were able to get to shore on their own, but needed help getting back to the main road. Flathead County Search and Rescue aided on the call.

The department responded to Whitefish Lake Saturday afternoon after a woman was injured by a boat propellor. She was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.


A man was arrested for assault with a weapon by a Kalispell Police Department officer after getting in a fight with his girlfriend on Lupine Drive and getting his shotgun out.

An emergency room employee contacted police after a group of about five drunk people showed up after driving to the hospital to visit a patient. The employee shared their fear that the group would leave drunk. The driver of the group was found to be sober, but was advised of a warrant for her arrest.

A man was reported for throwing firecrackers out of the window of his Fourth Avenue East apartment.

A drunk woman reportedly got her husband to threaten a man after he confronted her for nearly hitting him with her vehicle while he was on his bicycle on Greatview Drive.

A motorist with a superior sound system was reported for blasting their music so loud a U.S. 93 South resident couldn’t hear his television.

A large man threatened another man after he and his friends were asked to stop drinking in the parking lot of a U.S. 93 South business.

A bicyclist was checked out by medical personnel and sent on his way home after passing out in a South Meridian Road driveway.

A worried woman on Treeline Road reported someone left several disturbing phone calls, perverted in nature, on her voice mail over the prior two days.

A manic motorcyclist was reported traveling at “well over” 100 miles per hour on West Idaho Street.

A woman reported being robbed by three people on U.S. 93 South who took money out of her purse, also taking her phone and wallet. A later report said she had not been robbed, but had her cellphone taken by her significant other.


An apparently forgetful East Edgewood Drive resident contacted the Whitefish Police Department. The resident’s key disappeared after being left in the door, and the caller wanted to know if police had the key again. Police advised they did not have it.

An East Seventh Street resident reported someone entered his house without his knowledge over the prior week, also puncturing his truck’s oil pan.

A mean-spirited motorist was reported throwing firecrackers out of a pickup truck onto U.S. 93 South, nearly tossing one through the window of another vehicle.


A Columbia Mountain Court home was the focus of a pair of calls to the Columbia Falls Police Department due to an alleged loud party that produced a lot of screaming and yelling that did not dissipate when a neighbor stopped by several times to ask them to keep it down. Quite the opposite, the neighbors reported the music just got louder every time.

A caring First Street West resident agreed to keep a rabbit for the moment after finding the animal abandoned in a carrier in a nearby alley.

A miffed man contacted police after being punched in the face outside a Fifth Street West restaurant. He and his opponent were advised to stay away from one another after it was found that no one witnessed the alleged punch.

A pair of pooches got a free ride to the Flathead County Animal Shelter after their owner was arrested for drunk driving during a traffic stop on Riley Lane.
