Glacier National Park rangers captured and put down a black bear in the Fish Creek Campground near Apgar on Monday.

That followed numerous incidents in which the bear exhibited aggressive, food-conditioned behavior toward visitors.

The bear was frequenting the campground and displaying aggressive behavior almost daily for about two weeks. It was entering campsites, foraging and charging at visitors.

Attempts to haze the bear away from the campground were unsuccessful.

The bear was about 3 years old and weighed about 100 pounds.

Park rangers set traps and captured the bear Sunday evening. After rangers verified that the correct bear had been captured because of its distinct marking, the bear was euthanized.

Park visitors are urged to keep campgrounds and developed areas clean and free of food and trash. Regulations require that all edibles, food container and cookware be store in a hard-sided vehicle or food locker, day or night.
