Hoyt, Crawford toss 1-hitters for Mission Valley Mariners
POLSON — The Mission Valley Mariners opened Class A American Legion conference play on Sunday by sweeping a doubleheader from the Missoula Mavericks on the 1-hit pitching of Kellen Hoyt and Jeremiah Crawford.
Hoyt struck out 10 Missoula batters and issued just three walks in an 8-0 victory.
Crawford had 16 strikeouts and walked just one batter in another 8-0 win.
The victories move the Mariners to 8-8 overall, 2-0 in league play.
“They threw gems today,” Mission Valley Mariners coach Jami Hanson said of his two standout hurlers.
“We had a pretty good weekend all in all.”
On Saturday, the Mariners beat the Missoula Pioneers twice.
Alex Killian led the Mariners with 3 for 4 performances in both games. He doubled in both games and had five RBIs.
