PASCO, Wash. — The KATS swim team dropped times in nearly every race it swam this weekend at the Tri-City Open.

All 10 swimmers saw time drops, with most cutting times off their personal best in every race.

Andrew Smith had a great finish in the 200-yard individual medley, chasing down a swimmer 8 yards in front of him on the final lap. He cut his previous best time by two seconds.

“It was awesome to watch him,” KATS coach Brandon Rannebarger said. “He turned on the legs and showed a lot of heart.”

Nathan Burnham shaved more than a minute off his personal best in the 400 freestyle, and cut nearly 20 seconds off both his 100 free and 100 backstroke.

“He’s one of those kids that works so hard,” Rannebarger said. “You love it when the hard workers get results like that.

Mary Burnham cut time in all of her races, including shaving 47 seconds off her best in the 200 IM. Miranda Lind finished third in the girls 13-14 800 freestyle, taking 25 seconds off her personal best.

Eric Smith, Marae Tintzman and Madyson Toren all set at least three personal bests while Bailey and Grace Rhodes each swam in an Olympic-size pool for the first time.

“It was a fun meet. It was a really good bonding experience.”

KATS will be holding a summer camp for kids from 2-12 grades at 4-6 p.m. on June 10 at The Summit pool. All skill levels are encouraged to take part.
