In their first game since being no-hit by Kalispell Lakers AA ace Dillon Eaves, the Glacier Twins racked up 15 hits in a 12-5 win over the Lakers’ A team Wednesday evening at Griffin Field.

Kyler Howke batted 3 for 4, Colton Gove was 3 for 5 with a triple and Zac Darling went 2 for 2 with a double as Glacier (13-8 overall, 7-0 conference) remained perfect in conference play.

“I felt like we had to come out and do what we usually do,” Howke said. “Swing the bats and bounce back.”

Peter Seymor broke the Twins’ 10-inning hitless streak with a single in the second, but Glacier had to wait until the third to score its first runs, pushing two runners across the plate on a single by Jake Slaybaugh.

A three-run fifth inning extended Glacier’s lead to 5-0 and the Twins added one run in the sixth and two in the seventh. Their last four runs came in the ninth when they strung together three consecutive hits, including Darling’s double.

“We hit the ball well,” Twins coach Bob Rupp said. “We had our two-strike hitting down when we needed it.”

The Twins totaled 10 stolen bases. Slaybaugh swiped three and Howke and Shane Marcial each had two.

“Coach Rupp really wants us to be aggressive this year on the bases,” Howke said.

Hugh Ramlow earned the win, allowing two unearned runs on six hits and one walk in six innings. Brandon Maasseen pitched the remaining four innings to pick up the save. He allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks.

“My fastball and my change were feeling good,” Ramlow said. “We just wanted to come out today and keep our string of conference wins going.”

Seven Twins errors allowed the Lakers to score four unearned runs.

“The pitchers, Hugh and Brandon, did a good enough job,” Rupp said. “If we don’t make as many errors the score’s a little different.”

Chasen Eaves batted 2 for 3 with a double to lead the Lakers, who scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning but were too far behind to mount a serious comeback.

Lakers starting pitcher Levi Brennamen took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk in six innings. Walker Malmin surrendered seven runs in three innings of relief.

Both teams return to the diamond on Saturday. The Twins host the Missoula Mavericks’ A team while the Class A Lakers are on the road against the Bitteroot Bucs.
