Immigration reform? Or a comprehensive transformation of America?

The so-called “comprehensive immigration reform bill” is just the latest turn of the screw in the ongoing campaign to fundamentally transform America into a socialist republic.

Sadly, it may just be a matter of time before Congress surrenders its responsibility to protect our country and passes this bill, almost certainly resulting in a new America that will be less affluent, less secure, less educated and less relevant, but certainly more international in character.

I suppose that is good news for those people who think America is too powerful, too productive and too influential. It also probably heartens those people who put more trust in the United Nations than in our own government to do the right thing.

But for the rest of us — especially for those of us who grew up in an America that was a shining beacon of liberty to the entire world — it is a very sad state of affairs indeed.

What’s funny — ha-ha funny in a sick humor kind of way, but also rather peculiar funny — is that our Congress doesn’t seem to give a damn about our national sovereignty, our national future or our national character. All that matters is embracing and welcoming foreign workers into our country because we are about 50 million short of the number of citizens needed to maintain our economy thanks to legalized abortion. Talk about the mother of all unintended consequences!

Heck, maybe the pressure of filling those 50 million empty jobs even justifies to some extent the willingness to allow immigrants to arrive in America on their own terms. It’s a short-term solution, but it’s entirely possible that at some sociological level, our country is doomed no matter what Congress does at this point. We may have become so decadent that like the Roman Empire, we will welcome our successors into our borders so that we just don’t have to deal with the heady problems of governance ourselves any longer.

I can’t say for sure, but I can declare with confidence that any country which surrenders its culture without a fight is a country built on quicksand.

Certainly, America has a well-deserved reputation as a melting pot. From the days of our founding, the outsider was welcomed into the fold — Germans and French fought alongside those of British heritage in our American Revolution, as did freed African slaves, Eastern Europeans and others. But it was understood that when you crossed the border into America, you were expected to become an American.

Later, there were periods when massive amounts of legal immigration did cause tension and turmoil in our republic, as natural-born Americans feared that the unique character of our people would be lost if it became too dilute. For a time, in the mid-1800s, the majority White Anglo-Saxon Protestants tried to hold off waves of Irish and German Catholics, and later Scandinavians, Italians, Eastern Europeans, and Chinese. Nonetheless, all of these culture groups eventually did arrive in large numbers — but with this important understanding: They aspired to be Americans, not strangers in a strange land.

My own family background is entirely comprised of Italians who got off the passenger ships at Ellis Island between 1891 and the late 1920s. No doubt they were greeted with a variety of prejudices, hardships and challenges that could have made them want to sail back the other direction, but they remained and persevered because they wanted to become part of the land of the free and the home of the brave. They learned the language; they studied and respected our history; they absorbed our culture as well as added to it.

What should worry everyone today is that we appear to be so desperate to expand our population that we have abandoned all standards, all expectations and all control. Rather than absorb the new immigrants into our hearty, healthy culture, we seem suicidally obsessed with bending our will to the newcomers.

Nor should my complaint be in any way gauged as directed toward the idea of immigration. As many of you know, I am married to a Chinese national who arrived here legally just five years ago, and many of our friends are immigrants as well. God bless the American dream — may we never lose the ability to open our arms to our friends across the world and welcome them to our homeland.

But “comprehensive” immigration reform will destroy that dream. First of all, it’s not reform — it’s surrender. The bill crafted by the Gang of Eight cares only about two constituent groups — big money and big votes. Employers are clamoring for legalization of the 10 to 20 million illegal immigrants in this country so they can expand their work force of cheap labor, and politicians are clamoring for legalization so they can pander to new voters in order to expand their partisan agendas.

Secondly, after Dodd-Frank, after Obamacare, after the Patriot Act, after the stimulus bill, anyone in Congress who votes for a “comprehensive” reform bill of any kind is either an idiot or a liar. Don’t let them tell you they read it! Don’t let them tell you they even wrote it! These massive bills are written by special interest groups and are chock full of back doors, open ends, false fronts, and other chicanery. They are crafted specifically to deceive the American public, and to grant the regulators and bureaucrats enough leverage so that they can accomplish whatever those in power want.

In this case, what those in power want is more cheap labor and they don’t care what they have to do to get it. In the case of “comprehensive” immigration reform, there are many time bombs waiting to explode inside the candy coating.

Did you know that legalization/amnesty is going to be available not just to those within our borders now, but also to many of those who have previously been legally deported?

Did you know that, using chain immigration policies that currently exist, if 11 million illegal aliens are legalized under the Marco Rubio National Sovereignty Surrender Act, they will ultimately be able to bring another 20 million to 30 million people to our country legally, who will then themselves be able to assist millions more in arriving here?

Did you know that there are very likely many more than 11 million illegal immigrants already here, but that is the number we have been trained to use by the government because it is less scary than 20 million?

Did you ever think about the fact that we already have 6 percent unemployment, and that if 20 million to 30 million people enter the work force in the next 10 years, we will be facing either drastically lower wages or permanent unemployment of 10 percent or more?

Did you ever wonder how the social services network can possibly absorb 30 million more people who will be entitled to food stamps, health care, education, welfare and every other benefit that has been guaranteed to Americans?

Did you consider the fact that in a few years, we may have Spanish-speaking majorities in the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and very possibly others, and that we could well be facing our own Quebec crisis?

Did you know that the Gang of Eight immigration bill doesn’t have any mechanism in place to ensure border security, so we will be going through the same problem again in 10 years?

Believe me, these concerns I have enumerated are just the tip of the iceberg. With “comprehensive” reform, most of the danger is submerged until such time as the ship of state rams it and starts to sink.

If this reform bill is passed, then the only thing left for you to do is to write your congressman and thank him or her for buying you passage on the maiden voyage of the Titanic II. But do it soon. Your time is short.
