Legion baseball: Lakers 2-1 in Palouse Tourney

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Kalispell Lakers’ AA American Legion baseball team entered the final day of pool play with a chance to claim the top seed in their pool at the Summer Palouse Tournament.

After falling 12-0 to FM Sports of Seattle in their tournament opener on Thursday, the Lakers bounced back with a 4-3 win over Columbia Basin (Washington) on Friday and a 10-8 win over Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) on Saturday.

Justin Wallace threw an 89-pitch complete game against Columbia Basin to earn the victory. The Lakers trailed Lewis-Clark State 8-1 after four innings before rallying with five runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh. Hank McLeod pitched four innings of relief to earn the win.

The Lakers finished pool play Saturday with a late game against the Spokane Crew.

The Summer Palouse Tournament’s championship round begins today.

DILLON — Kellen Hoyt pitched a 5-inning one-hit shutout as the Mission Valley Mariners blasted the Butte Miners at the Maybelle Arthur Tournament.

Hoyt struck out five and walked four.

Jeremiah Crawford led Mission Valley at the plate, batting 3 for 3 with two doubles.

Ryan Pablo, Zeke Webster-Yaqui and Bradley Pichler each collected two hits.

WILLISTON, N.D. — The Glacier Twins’ A team went 2-1 during the first two days of the Williston, N.D., Tournament.

The Twins won a pair of games Thursday, topping Williston and Regina, Saskatchewan, then lost to Miles City on Friday.

Glacier led throughout its win over Williston after scoring three runs in the top of the first, but trailed Regina 5-2 after surrendering five runs in the bottom of the second. The Twins rallied to score the tying and go-ahead runs in the fifth before adding an insurance run in the sixth.

After trailing through the first three innings of its loss to Miles City, Glacier scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 12-10 lead.

Miles City answered with three runs in the top of the fifth and final inning.
