Gerald G. 'Jerry' Brown, 70

 Gerald G. “Jerry” Brown, 70, “began his trip up the staircase to be with the love of his life, Victoria ‘Vicki’ (Lumpry) Brown,” on June 18, 2013, in Helena.

 Born in Kansas on Sept. 29, 1942, to Arvid and Mildred (Sedlachek) Brown, at a young age he moved to the Post Creek area, eventually graduating from Mission High School. It was in this area, that he met the love of his life and they eventually married and started their family.

 Following high school he worked in Deer Lodge, then construction in Missoula for a short while, before he and Vicki moved to Helena where he worked building roads, parking lots and gravel work for Helena Sand & Gravel for 39 years, until he retired.

 After retirement, he started working on small engines, fixing just about anything that someone brought to him. He also worked for CAP Paving part time, and was looking forward to this year’s projects.

At age 38, Jerry won his first pitman crew race, and he took up racing. The number “38” became his racing number as he continued racing. His son and grandchildren continue the race legacy today.  

 He and his wife Vicki, who passed last fall, were known as “Leather and Lace.” Also preceding him were his parents, twins who died in infancy, and his youngest daughter Robin Rae Brown, who passed in 1988.

Survivors include his children, SueSan Lumpry of Helena, Jerry “Chomers” Brown and fiancee Kim Rodgers of Helena, and Jacki “Jake” Brown and Dave Fortin of Coram; grandchildren, Camas Brown Fortin, Bryan, Cody and Mariah Brown; great-grandchildren, Braydon and Karyhana; siblings, Richard Brown of Post Creek and Denise and Tony Incashola of St. Ignatius; numerous nieces and nephews; family in Kansas, as well too many people to name whom he considered his own.

 A rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral Home in St. Ignatius with Mass being celebrated at noon on Saturday at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church.
