Man killed in St. Regis confrontation
A man was killed by law enforcement officers responding to a report of a domestic disturbance in St. Regis.
The state Justice Department says Mineral County sheriff’s officers responding to a family disturbance at 6 p.m. Wednesday heard a gunshot come from the residence. Four Montana Highway Patrol officers responded to a request for backup.
The Justice Department says the suspect, armed with a rifle, left the home. Two hours later, officers found the man about a block from the residence.
The man would not follow commands to drop his rifle. The initial investigation indicates he raised his weapon toward the officers and was shot by a trooper.
The trooper was placed on administrative leave.
The state Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating.
The name of the suspect was not released.
