Collage art on display in Bigfork

| June 26, 2013 5:00 PM

A New York City-based artist’s three-dimensional collages are on display at the Collage Gallery of Fine Art in Bigfork.

Susan Crawford’s unique and colorful collages explore “the restorative effect of travel on the mind and soul and communicate moments we might otherwise miss in the routine of daily life.” She uses multiple planes and three-dimensional elements to draw the viewer deep into the creative process.

Crawford has traveled in such diverse places as Hong Kong, South Africa, Italy, Australia, Botswana and Hawaii. She wants those who view her collages to be transported visually and emotionally back to the “moment,” as she was when she rounded a street corner or walked down a winding street to be astounded by what she saw.

Crawford is a mixed-media artist with deep roots in Montana, spending her time between New York and Missoula and Flathead Lake. She was honored in 2011 with the outstanding alumna award from the University of Montana for her career in the arts.

An opening reception for Crawford’s exhibit will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The artist will be present, and the public is invited.

The Collage Gallery of Fine Art is located at 573 Electric Ave. The gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. daily or by appointment; call 837-0866.
