A Washington state man apparently slipped and fell to his death Wednesday afternoon in Glacier National Park.

The 64-year-old man died along Going-to-the-Sun Road near the Rim Rock area about a mile west of Logan Pass, according to a news release from Glacier Park spokeswoman Denise Germann.

Witnesses told rangers the man was hiking alone on the Highline Trail, which is closed due to snow danger. It is believed the man slipped on snow and fell to his death on the road below.

The man was declared dead at the scene in spite of attempts to revive him.

Park rangers, with the assistance of bystanders, administered cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and used an automated external defibrillator.

The incident began to unfold at 3:40 p.m. when a park ranger requested emergency medical assistance at the Rim Rock area along the road.

The man's body was transferred to the Flathead County coroner and transported to a local mortuary. His family members are being notified.

Glacier visitors are reminded that winter conditions exist in many locations in the park's high country, including the Logan Pass area. Visitors should exercise caution when walking on snow and be alert of possible collapsible snow, steep slide areas and changing weather conditions.
