The Montana Department of Transportation opened bids Thursday for the northernmost segment of the U.S. 93 bypass in Kalispell.

With an engineer’s cost estimate of $6.79 million, the road project would reconfigure the intersection of U.S. 93 and West Reserve Drive and build a half-mile stretch of four-lane bypass from there south to Reserve Loop.

Five bids were submitted for the work:

v Schellinger Construction Co., $6.73 million.

v LHC, $7.58 million.

v LS Jensen Construction and Ready Mix, $8.76 million.

v Nelcon, $8.98 million.

v Knife River Corporation, $9.4 million.

Bids now will be checked for accuracy and errors. When that process is done, the apparent low bid will be sent to the Transportation Commission for approval and contract award next month, said Ed Toavs, Missoula district administrator for Montana Department of Transportation.
