The Glacier Park hiker who died in a fall from a closed trail on Wednesday has been identified as 64-year old Charles Fred Huseman from Packwood, Wash.

Glacier National Park public affairs officer Denise Germann released Packwood’s name Friday afternoon.

Huseman died from bodily trauma sustained in a fall in the Rim Rock area about a mile west of Logan Pass.

Witnesses told park rangers that Huseman was hiking the Highline Trail — which is closed due to snow danger — when he slid on a snow field and fell approximately 100 feet, landing along Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Huseman was declared dead at the scene in spite of attempts to revive him.

Park rangers, with the assistance of bystanders, administered cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and used an automated external defibrillator.

The weather at Logan Pass on Wednesday afternoon included sun, rain, hail and gusty winds.

Glacier visitors are reminded that winter conditions exist in many locations in the park's high country, including the Logan Pass area. Visitors should exercise caution when walking on snow and be alert of possible collapsible snow, steep slide areas and changing weather conditions.
