Glacier wrestling coach resigns

Glacier wrestling coach Mark Fischer has resigned his position as head coach of the Wolfpack wrestling team.

Fischer, who has led the Wolfpack program since its inception in 2007, said he is leaving to focus on his next venture in life after 16 years of coaching. He will continue to teach social studies at GHS and work as an assistant coach on the Wolfpack softball team.

“I think its the right thing to do right now in my life,” Fischer said. “I’m looking forward to the next phase: getting married and starting another family. Just making that my priority.”

The Wolfpack has had a ton of success under Fischer, winning a state title in 2012 after finishing second as a team the season before. Individually, Glacier has had four state champion wresters and 52 state placers during his tenure.

A 1993 Polson High School graduate, he also spent a year as an assistant at Flathead and as a head coach at Billings Central, Sequim, Wash., and Oakes, N.D.

“I would like to thank the administration of Glacier High School, the wrestlers, and this community for an amazing experience that I will never forget,” Fischer said.
