GREAT FALLS — The Glacier girls played Billings West close all game, but couldn’t overcome a late run of sloppy play, falling 43-47 in a loser-out game in the Class AA state basketball tournament on Friday at Four Seasons Arena.

The Wolfpack was within three points of the Bears in the final minutes of play, but had a string of turnovers that kept it from getting any closer. Glacier tried to force the ball into the post, but sent in a pair of entry passes that missed their mark. Then, after stealing the ball on an inbounds play with a chance to tie, the Pack passed it directly to a West defender, ending any chance it had.

Glacier’s defense kept it in the first half despite missing a slew of shots near the rim. The Wolfpack shot just 31 percent for the game.

“We never could really get control of the game,” Glacier coach Kris Salonen said.

“We just could never get a grasp on it.

“We gave ourselves options to try to get back in it and we missed layups and had turnovers at the end.”

Cassi Hashley had a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Wolfpack.

Samirah Dennis had 11 points and 10 rebounds for West.

“Billings West just took control of the game.” Salonen said.

“That got most of the loose balls and they capitalized.”
