Glacier visitor drowned
The death of a 28-year-old Kalispell woman in Glacier National Park last week has been determined to be accidental.
Amy Marie Reddig drowned, with hypothermia and schizophrenia contributing to her death, according to the Flathead County Coroner’s Office.
“We send our sympathy to the Reddig family, and our appreciation to our partners that provided professional and timely assistance during the incident,” said Kym Hall, Glacier’s acting superintendent.
Park dispatch received a missing person report on Reddig from the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office at about 10:15 a.m. on March 14. Rangers found Reddig’s vehicle in the parking lot at Lake McDonald Lodge at about 11:45 a.m. and a search was initiated in the surrounding area.
About 3 p.m. that day, searchers in a helicopter located Reddig’s body at the head of Lake McDonald near the mouth of McDonald Creek.
The water temperature was 36 degrees.
Drowning is the number one cause of death in the park, and visitors are urged to use caution around water, according to a news release from Glacier.
