Mary Barbara St. John, 81

| March 20, 2013 4:06 PM

Mary Barbara St. John, 81, lovingly known as Grandma B, formerly of Kalispell, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at her residence in Virginia Beach, Va.
Her dog Maude followed her on Monday, March 4, 2013.
Mary was born Aug. 25, 1931, to Frederick Harry and Charlotte Emerson Greil. She had been married to Chuck St. John (now deceased.)
She was a majorette in high school where she met her first husband and the father of her children, George Vorel, on the football field.
She was predeceased by her sister, Lois Cole; and daughter, Amy Vorel.
Grandma B is survived by her children, Mike Vorel, Will Vorel, Rose Vorel, Beth Campbell and Charlotte Kostelecky; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and siblings, John Greil and Toni Theisen.
If you were to ask any of them, they would all say they were her favorite. She loved her family unconditionally, and was always the one we would all turn to for love and advice. She always had the right words for any situation and the one phrase that always stuck with us was, "Do what makes you happy and if they don't like it ..." well, we know how that ends.
It never seemed to matter how old you were, you were never too old to snuggle with her, to be held by her, or have her kiss your face and nibble your neck. She loved her gardens, museums and ice cream. She gave us all the love for music, and played piano and was choir director for church. Her never ending care, her blankets, scarves and vests that she made will always be remembered and cherished.
Her favorite poem was “How Do I Love You? Let Me Count the Ways!”
Her favorite hymns were “In the Garden,” “The Old, Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace.”
“She was our guardian when she was here and will remain our guardian while she watches us from heaven.”
A private family service was held on March 1.
