Youth art classes start again April 8

| March 27, 2013 5:00 PM

Spring art sessions, with classes for every age group, begin April 8 at Stumptown Art Studio.

Stumptown Art Academy, for preschool children ages 3 to 5, takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays and/or Wednesdays. The program focuses on art-based education with an integrated core curriculum approach. Every month, a different artist will be studied through art, math, science, social studies and language arts.

Arts and Crafts Club takes place at Muldown School on Mondays and Wednesdays.

On Tuesdays, Art Exploration for children ages 3 to 5 takes place from 12:30 to 2 p.m. In the first session, young artists will make animal art.

Artists ages 9 to 12 can join in clay classes after school either on Tuesday or Wednesday for Wheeling Weekdays to learn the basics of throwing a pot on the potter’s wheel. Wednesday is also the day for After School Arts and Crafts Club for ages 9 to 13.

Parent-Toddler Art Time for parents and children ages 1 to 3 is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.

Also on Thursdays, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Art en Español is available for children in kindergarten through grade four. In this class, students become familiar with a foreign language through art, music and movement.

The popular Art with the Masters class for ages 6 to 9 takes place from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. Thursdays. For the first four weeks, the art of Italian artist Amadeo Modigliani will be studied, and then students will create their own works of art in his style.

Spring hours at Stumptown Art Studio and the Ceramics Annex are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Anyone can come during those times to paint pottery, do glass fusing or make mosaics.

Additional hours are during all classes, special events and pre-arranged after-hours parties.
