The boys tennis teams from Flathead and Glacier each swept through the Great Falls swing, sweeping Great Falls High and C.M. Russell in a pair of meets on Saturday.

The Glacier boys, playing with half of their regular varsity members because of spring break, showed their depth beating CMR 6-2 and Great Falls High 5-3.

“We had a lot of kids playing their first varsity match ever today,” Glacier coach Josh Munro said. “It was a really successful day for a lot of young kids gaining experience.”

Spencer Johnson won both of his matches at No. 1 singles for the Wolfpack, dropping just two games in the two matches. The Glacier doubles teams only lost one match.

The Flathead boys won each match 5-3 as each of their top two singles players dominated play.

Glenn Strickler lost only two games in his match against GFH’s Kylar Clifton at No. 1 singles and didn’t lose a game against CMR’s Soran Ormseth. Matt Widen didn’t lose a game all day playing at No. 2 singles.

“They did awesome for the first meet of the season,” Flathead coach Sue Corrigan said.

The girls teams each got by Great Falls but dropped the contests with CMR.

Glacier was spurred on by its doubles teams which lost just two matches. Kirstyn Haugenoe and Kali Matheson shook off a slow start against Great Falls to take each of their matches at No. 1 doubles.

Molly Wright came back against GFH’s Bailey Thomas to win one of her two matches at No. 1 singles.

Jenna Boles won both of her matches at No. 3 singles for Flathead, including the only win for the Bravettes against CMR.

“They really played a lot of different positions, the girls did,” Corrigan said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ll do when we have our full crew out there.”

Munro was equally optimistic.

“There’s a lot of depth and kids that can play,” Munro said. “It’s a great look at what we do have. We are very senior heavy. We got a great look at the future of team. There’s a lot of good things that came out of today.”
