Hockaday offers classes for all ages in May
The Hockaday Museum of Art offers classes for artists of all ages this month.
Youths ages 7 to 14 are invited to attend after-school art classes from 3:30 to 4:50 p.m. Tuesdays.
This month’s classes focus on drawing and painting. Young artists will explore the possibilities of drawing and painting using graphite, charcoal, ink and watercolor. This class will focus on combining drawing and painting techniques to create works of art.
The interests and skill level of participating students will determine the subject and focus of each lesson. Cost for the four-session class is $25 for museum members, or $30 for nonmembers.
Youths ages 2 to 5 are welcome to attend Preschool Art Adventures from 11:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays from May through August.
Using paper, paint, markers, crayons and glue, preschool artists and their adult helpers will share fun art projects that encourage creativity and develop basic art skills. Children whose families have a membership may attend for free. Nonmembers are asked to pay a suggested donation of $3 per child.
Home-school art classes for students in grades one through eight take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesdays this month.
Students will explore the world through art by learning about different cultures, artists and techniques used to create works of art. They will use the elements of art and principles of design in making their own drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures and more.
Cost is $6 for members, or $7 for nonmembers.
The museum’s adult workshop this month takes place this weekend.
Painting with Pastels is open to artists 15 and older and will be taught by Janet Sullivan. The class is for those who want to develop techniques and skills with pastels.
Sullivan will demonstrate techniques and students will gain experience while exploring a range of paper surfaces and underpainting in a water-based medium. Students will use their own supplies; some surfaces will be provided by the instructor.
The class takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Hockaday. Cost is $200 for members, or $225 for nonmembers.
