POLSON — A 7-run first inning propelled Polson to a 13-8 win over Glacier in a nonconference softball game Tuesday.

Martina Marquardt led Polson (10-1 overall, 4-0 Northwestern A) by batting 4 for 4 with a home run and six RBIs. Jessica Bagnell batted 4 for 5 and Heidi Rausch and Jaylin Kenney each tallied three hits. Polson totaled 23 hits.

“I was very impressed with the way our bats came alive,” Polson coach Larry Smith said. “We got the key hits with people on base.”

Jena Willis, Kayleena Ikeda and Ali Williams each homered for Glacier (11-5, 9-2 Western AA), which talled 13 hits. Williams and Marysa Rogozynski led the Wolfpack with three hits apiece.

“Polson jumped out to a big start, but offensively I felt like our girls did a pretty good job,” Glacier coach Andy Fors said. “We hit three home runs and were able to make contact. We had 13 hits against a very good pitcher in Shalaina Duford.”

Both teams lead their respective conferences and both coaches said it was good to face a tough nonconference opponent.

“That is a very, very strong program,” Fors said of Polson, which has won the last three Class A state championships. “They’ve had a ton of success. It’s nice to have them on the schedule because our girls can do nothing but improve with a game like that.

“Especially late in the season as we look ahead and prepare for the state tournament. That’s the kind of competition we need to have.”
