Softball: Glacier clinches top seed in West
The Glacier softball team clinched the No. 1 seed in Western AA with second-place Missoula Big Sky’s 9-7 loss to Missoula Sentinel Thursday.
While the Wolfpack weren’t in action, Big Sky’s loss dropped its conference record to 5-4. Glacier is 9-2 with one league game remaining.
Glacier finished fifth out of seven Western AA teams a year ago and only returned two seniors, making this year’s run a bit unexpected.
“I would say it’s very surprising,” Glacier coach Andy Fors said. “We definitely surpassed some of the expectations that we as coaches had. I think if you asked the girls, they believed they could do it all year long. It’s a pretty committed group.”
Glacier hosts a nonconference game against Libby today, then concludes Western AA play next Thursday against Flathead.
