Rogozynski, Willis, Ikeda HR for Glacier
Glacier’s seniors stepped up to the plate Friday, leading their team to an 8-0 softball victory over Libby in their last game at Kidsports Complex this season.
Pitcher Jena Willis threw six innings from the circle, allowing only two hits with 12 strikeouts and two walks, and led off the game with an opposite-field home run.
“I didn’t know I could hit to right field, I don’t think anybody knew I could hit to right field,” Willis said. “It’s senior night, why not? I’ve been playing at these fields since I was 8. Might as well go out with a bang.”
Right fielder Marysa Rogozynski had four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the third inning.
“We knew what we needed to do,” Rogozynski said. “I love playing with these girls.”
Glacier scored in bunches. Willis’ opening shot led off a four-run first inning. Kayleena Ikeda blasted a deep home run to dead center field to start the third inning, and Rogozynski chipped in three hitters later with her three-run shot.
While the long ball was the offensive story for the Wolfpack, Willis’ pitching and the team’s defense won the game. Willis twice struck out the side and didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning. That hit was one of only three balls to leave the infield, and one of just four batters to reach base.
Auria Benefield’s single to center field broke up the no-hit bid for Libby and Hannah England led off the sixth inning with an infield single for the Loggers’ only other hit.
“Great game for senior night,” Glacier coach Andy Fors said.
“Jena held them to zero and the team helped back her up with the shut out. That’s really nice because that’s gonna be big for us at the state tournament. If our defense is clean and sharp.”
Glacier’s final games of the regular season come on Thursday against Flathead at Conrad Complex.
Libby hosts the Bravettes on Tuesday.
