Softball: Duford hurls 3rd no-hitter of season for Polson

POLSON — Shalaina Duford threw her third no-hitter of the season and raised her season record in the circle to 13-1 on Saturday as Polson dropped Hamilton 9-1 and Corvallis 24-0 in Class A nonconference softball action.

The no-hitter came against Corvallis. She had just two strikeouts in that outing and no walks.

Duford fanned eight batters and issued no walks in the Hamilton outing.

“Overall, we did really well,” Polson coach Larry Smith said.

“Hamilton has a very good pitcher (Brie Clifford) and we got the bat on the ball very well against her. We really exploded against Corvallis.”

Polson (12-1) plays a Northwestern A game Tuesday at Columbia Falls.

LIBBY — Hannah England held Whitefish to a pair of singles, struck out six and issued one walk in going the distance in the circle to guide Libby past Whitefish in Northwestern A action.

Libby (4-7 overall, 2-3 league) did all of its scoring in the first three innings.

Rebecca Kyriss and Auria Benefield both had 3 RBIs for the Loggers.

Mahalah Weidel paced the offense by going 3 for 4, which included a double.

Rachel Rebo also doubled.

Shannon Craft and MacKenzie Carl had singles for Whitefish (1-11, 0-6).

“The girls hit the ball well,” Libby coach Dean Thompson said.

“We played a good game.”

Libby had 10 hits and did not commit an error.

Libby hosts Flathead on Tuesday.

FRENCHTOWN — Morgan Ray held Columbia Falls to three singles and struck out 14 batters to power Frenchtown (13-2, 3-2) to a Northwestern A victory over Columbia Falls (9-6, 3-2).

Ray also homered in the contest, her fourth of the season.

In a nonconference contest, Columbia Falls slipped past Butte Central.

Tiffany Hummer and Carlee Brown had two hits each for Columbia Falls against Butte Central.

Hummer doubled, along with Ashley Trueblood and Amanda Morrison.

Columbia Falls hosts Polson in a Northwestern A matchup on Tuesday.
