Some schools hold elections Tuesday
Following is election and voting information for individual school districts:
Bigfork
v Voting will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Ark behind Bethany Lutheran Church on Montana 35 in Bigfork.
Absentee voting will be available at the school district office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. now, through May 3 and from 8 a.m. to noon Monday.
On the ballot:
v A trustee election will be held to fill two three-year terms currently held by Thaddeus Jordt and Mike Roessmann. Candidates are Zack Anderson, Seth Jason Campbell, Jill Reichner and Paul Sullivan Jr.
Cayuse Prairie
The election is canceled. Jack Thatcher will be seated by acclamation for a three-year term replacing Brad Cronk.
Columbia Falls
A levy election is June 4. Trustees Larry Wilson and Barbara Riley will retain their seats and serve three-year terms through acclamation.
Creston
The election is canceled. Two trustees, Bob Erickson and Pauline Davidson, will be seated for three-year terms by acclamation.
Deer Park
The election is canceled. Trustee David LaFollett will be seated by acclamation for a three-year term.
Evergreen
The election is canceled. Tamara Williams and Dave Lowitz will serve three-year trustee terms through acclamation.
Fair-Mont-Egan
The election is canceled. Incumbent Denise VanArtsdale will be seated for a three-year term through acclamation.
Helena Flats
The election is canceled. Trustee David Mattson was seated by acclamation for a three-year term.
Kalispell
The district has not decided yet whether or not to hold an election for a levy request.
Trustees will be seated by acclamation.
Elementary trustee Anna Marie Bailey will retain her seat for a three-year term. Jeremy Reed will serve a three-year term on the elementary board replacing Mark Twichel. Twichel will replace Heather Kobos for a one-year term on the elementary board. On the high school board, Steve Davis replaces Rob Keller for a three-year term representing Kila, Lakeside and Somers.
Kila
v Vote from 12 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kila School Library.
On the ballot:
v A $20,000 technology levy, which would fund purchasing, renting and maintaining equipment. If approved, the levy is estimated to increase annual property taxes by $18.30 for owners of a $200,000 home or $34.32 for owners of a $300,000 home.
Two trustee seats — currently held by Judy Sommers and Thomas Kopec — for three-year terms are up for election. Candidates are Geraldine Landowski, Wenzel Landowski and Erica Stevens.
Marion
The election is canceled. Terry Zink and Tim Davis will be seated by acclamation for three-year terms. Trustee Josh Nunn is leaving the board.
Olney-Bissell
The election is canceled. Three trustees — Elizabeth Winckler, Leroy Brooks and Jeni Johnston — will be seated by acclamation and will serve three-year terms. Trustee Thomas West is leaving the board.
Pleasant Valley
The election is canceled. Janet Monk will be seated for a three-year term by acclamation. The board will appoint someone to fill a two-year term.
Smith Valley
v Vote from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Smith Valley School gym.
On the ballot:
v A trustee election will be held for a one-year term; candidates are Angie Brown and Sue Cameron. Two seats for three-year terms also will be decided; candidates are Doni Bennett, Eric Mitchell and Frank Sutton.
Somers-Lakeside
v Vote from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Somers Middle School for Precincts 29, 33 and 34. Precincts 13 and 24 will vote at Lakeside Elementary School.
Absentee voting ends at noon Monday at the district office at 315 School Addition Road, Somers.
On the ballot:
v A $200,000 general fund levy to fund school district operations and maintenance expenses.
Annual property taxes would increase by $23.73 for the owner of a $200,000 home or $35.59 for owners of a $300,000 home.
Swan River
The election has been canceled and trustees will be seated by acclamation. Dawn Dowellgrim will serve a three-year term. Benjamin Haag and Toby Thompson will serve two-year terms.
West Glacier
Two trustees will be seated by acclamation. Casey Heupel will serve a three-year term and Ellen Blickhan a one-year term.
v Vote from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the school.
On the ballot:
v A $9,420 technology levy to purchase, rent and maintain technology equipment that includes computers, computer networks and personnel training.
If the levy is approved, taxpayers can anticipate annual property taxes will go up by $5.54 on a $200,000 home or $8.31 on a $300,000 home.
West Valley
v Vote from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at West Valley School library.
On the ballot:
v Trustee election for two seats each a three-year term. Candidates are Sharon Park and incumbents Helen Lyford and Stephanie Nadasi.
Whitefish
v Vote from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Whitefish Middle School in the downstairs district board. Absentee voting ends at noon Monday.
On the ballot:
v A $36,000 high school general fund levy, which would pay for operation and maintenance expenses. If the levy is approved, taxpayers may anticipate annual property taxes will go up by $1.85 for the owner of a $200,000 home or $2.78 for owners of a $300,000 home annually.
The levy money would give the district the ability to hire an additional teacher next school year, effectively replacing five of the nine staff members who are retiring this year. Without the levy the district expects to replace four of the staff members.
Two trustee seats currently held by Ruth Harrison and Charlie Abell will be decided in the election. Both are three-year terms. Candidates include incumbent Harrison, Nick Polumbus and Karla West.
