Glacier High presents choir concert

| May 8, 2013 6:30 PM

The Glacier High School choral music department will present its final concert of the school year, “Some Nights,” at  7:30 p.m. May 20 in the Glacier High performance hall. There is no admission charge.

The concert will open with all of the choirs singing “Some Nights,” a song by indie pop band fun.

“This song has great harmonies and will be a fun, energetic concert opener,” choir director Sandee Sauer said.

The Glacier Girls’ Choir will follow the opener with hits from the 1960s, including “Build Me Up Buttercup” and “Chapel of Love.” The Men’s Choir will continue the 1960s feel with a medley including “Duke of Earl” and “Surfin’ U.S.A.” Continuing with songs from the past, the Glacier Breeze will entertain the audience with the Andrews’ Sisters’ “Shoo-Shoo Baby.”

“The Glacier Breeze just performed ‘Shoo-Shoo Baby’ with choreography at the state music festival in Missoula. They received a Superior rating — just one point from a perfect score,” Sauer said.

The Concert Choir will sing songs from the 1980s, including Toto’s “Africa” and Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror,” which will spotlight the graduating Concert Choir seniors.

“The lyrics talk about making a change and making a difference in the world. This senior class is definitely ready to do just that,” Sauer said.

The Advanced Women’s Choir and the Glacier Echoes will bring the audience forward to the current decade with songs by Adele

 and Of Monsters and Men.

This concert will also recognize students who participated in the District and State music festivals, as well as those who will be receiving a varsity letter in choral music. The Director’s Awards and the National School Choral Awards will be presented to four outstanding seniors who have contributed to the success of Glacier High School’s choral program.

“It will be an evening of laughter, tears and light-hearted music,” Sauer said.
