Softball: Whitefish, Eureka split series

WHITEFISH — The Whitefish softball team split a nonconference doubleheader against Eureka on Tuesday, with each team putting up a barrage of runs.

The Bulldogs outscored Eureka 15-10 in the opener, putting together 19 hits. Andrea Lameuroux had a great all-around game, throwing for 12 strikeouts from the circle while going 5 for 5 from the plate, moving runners from the cleanup position.

“She was either hitting RBIs or moving people around,” Whitefish coach Carrie Lamb said. “She’s just solid. She’s our captain, she leads the team well.”

MacKenzie Carl went 4 for 5 from the plate for Whitefish in the opener and Shannon Craft went 3 for 3.

Cassidy Morgan went 2 for 4 with a home run for the Lions.

Eureka hit the ball much better in the second game, scoring five runs in the first inning and nine in the third, nearly mercying the Bulldogs.

Trailing by 13 in the fourth, Lameuroux saved the day for Whitefish, hitting an inside-the-park grand slam to cut the deficit to within the mercy threshhold. The Bulldogs went on to score 12 runs in the inning, and trail by just two entering the fifth inning.

The game was called after the fifth because of darkness.

Whitefish heads to Anaconda for a nonconference game on Thursday. Eureka hosts Mission on Friday.
