LIBBY — Flathead senior Zach Perrin continues to make history on the track this season, setting yet another record mark on Friday in a dual meet against Libby.

Perrin ran the 1,600-meter race in 4 minutes, 9.24 seconds, the fastest time ever recorded by a Montana athlete. The mark is more than a second faster than the school record set by David Vidal in 2001 at sea level at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational. Until Friday, the fastest time run in the state of Montana was Vidal’s state record of 4:13.29 set at the state meet in Great Falls in 2001.

The time is tied for the fourth fastest 1,600 run in the nation this season.

Earlier this season, Perrin ran the fastest ever 3,200 time in Montana, finishing in 9:06.13 at the crosstown meet in April. That mark was 6 seconds faster than the old time. He now holds the top times for a Montanan in both of the distance races, setting the out-of-state 3,200 mark in 2012. The only records he doesn’t hold for the races are the state records, which need to be set at the state meet.

The blazing time set by Perrin was the highlight of a fast day at Logger Stadium for Flathead, which won all 34 events in the dual.

The Bravettes’ 400 relay team, already the fastest in the state, finished with its best time of the season and the best time in the state this year. The team finished in 48.84 seconds, 0.5 seconds faster than the state best they set at the Archie Roe last weekend. The time is nearly a second faster than the next best team in the state.

Mackenzie Bouma won both distance races for the girls and Cassie Krueger won both the shot put and discus.

Jake Egley won the 100, 200 and the 300 hurdles for the Braves. Matthew Tokarz kept up his big performances in the jumps, winning both the long a triple jumps.

Both teams are done for the regular season, heading to the divisional meets next weekend. Flathead will head to Helena for the Western AA meet and Libby to Whitefish for the Northwestern A.
