Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is investigating the shooting of a grizzly bear that recently was found wounded.

Tim Manley, the regional grizzly bear management specialist, was on a May 4 monitoring flight when he located a collared male grizzly bear that was dragging its hind quarters.

After landing, Manley put down the bear in the Wolf Creek Drive and Montana 83 area near the Swan River.

Warden Chuck Bartos investigated and a necropsy determined the bear had been wounded by gunfire.

Bartos is urging anyone with information on the case to contact him at 253-2934 or by calling 1-800-TIPMONT. Callers can remain anonymous and an award may be available.
