Golf: Bigfork trio in state tourney

BOZEMAN — They’ve moved on to state, and a familiar setting.

Bigfork’s Blake Weimer, Lars Gittings and Maddie Lorang each qualified for the Class B state golf tournament on Tuesday, commanding Bridger Creek Golf Course to finish in the top 15 at the Division 3 golf tournament in Bozeman. The trio will host the state tournament next week at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Bigfork.

The top 15 golfers and top four teams advance to the state tournament.

Weimer finished sixth on the boys side, shooting a 10-over round of 81, 11 shots back of tournament champion Tom Swanson of Missoula Loyola.

Gittings finished tied for 15th, sneaking in with a round of 87.

The Vikings boys team finished short of qualifying, ending in fifth place with a score of 372. Bigfork’s Ryder Trent finished just short of qualifying for the Bigfork boys, shooting a 89 to finish two strokes outside of 15th place. Jon Landon shot a 115 and Nico Carie shot a 133 for the Vikings.

Eureka didn’t finish with a team score after bringing just three golfers. Zayne Davis led the Lions with a round of 106. Pony Linnell finished with a round of 110 and Austin Leonard entered the clubhouse at 117.

Lorang was the sole female qualifier for Bigfork, finishing in 15th with a round of 109.

The Valkyries team finished in sixth place with a score of 518. Kalister Meagher led the pack of Vals behind Lorang, scoring a 130. Josie Spoklie finished with a 137 and Stevi Siloti shot a 142.

Missoula Loyola’s Sadie Crippen won the girls tournament with a score of 79, beating her sister Maggie and Townsend’s Bailee Dexter by a stroke.
