B divisional track: Morley wins 3,200 in record time

MISSOULA — For the second day in a row, Bigfork’s Makena Morley set a meet record at the Western B divisional track meet at Missoula County Stadium.

Morley won the 3,200 Saturday with a time of 10:42.29, shattering the old mark of 10:53.36 by Catlin Stone of Seeley-Swan set in 2008.

Morley also won the 800 (2:17.70) on the final day and ran on the Valkyries’ winning 1,600 relay team with Megan Pancoast, Mattison McAnally and Marissa Hiza. Their time — 4:17.85.

On Friday, Morley broke the meet record in the 1,600 with her winning effort of 4:59.50.

The Bigfork girls finished fourth with 68 1/2 points. Plains won the team trophy with a 139 total.

The Bigfork boys finished second in the final standings with an 86 score. Thompson Falls took first place with 107 points.

The Vikings had one first on the final day. Boyd Rieke, Chance Kittle, Colton Woll and Josh Sandry won the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:37.11.

The Eureka boys and girls placed sixth with 47 and 43 points, respectively. Top performers for the Lions on the last day were Tanner Blankers, second in the javelin, Khaz Yanak, second in the triple jump, and Emily Billow, second in the discus.

The top six placers and relay teams advance to state, which begins Friday in Bozeman.
