Lakers defeat Cards; Twins A sweep Salmon

Dillon Matteson drove in three runs and Dillon Eaves went the distance on the mound Sunday as the Kalispell Lakers defeated the Edmonton Cardinals 7-2 on the final day of the Canadian Days baseball tournament at Griffin Field.

Eaves scattered 10 hits over six innings and struck out eight. He walked just one batter.

He also had a solid day at the plate, going 2 for 3.

Edmonton outhit the Lakers 10-7.

Kalispell stranded 11 runners and Edmonton nine.

The win was the first in tournament play for Kalispell. The Lakers lost to Sherwood Park 14-3 on Friday and to the Calgary Reds 11-5 on Saturday.

Kalispell is back on the diamond Wednesday for a nonconference single game outing with Class A Libby at Griffin Field. Play starts at 6 p.m.

SALMON, Idaho — The Glacier Twins won their second road doubleheader in two days by downing the Salmon Savages.

Jake Slaybaugh and Austin Robins shared mound duties in the opener. Slaybaugh, Jayce Fagerland and Colton Gove had two hits each.

The Twins tallied six runs in the second inning and eight in the sixth of the second game to score a season high 19 runs.

Robert Simmons went 3 for 4 and drove in four runs and Peter Seymor doubled in two runs in the fourth inning. Seymor, Fagerland and Shane Marcial had two hits each.

The Twins stole more than 20 bases in Game 2 with Marcial recording eight.

Glacier (12-6, 4-0) hosts Kootenai Valley on Friday for two seven-inning conference games. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
