C-Falls unbeaten in state A softball

BELGRADE — Columbia Falls remained unbeaten at the Class A state softball tournament with 24-10 quarterfinal win over Hamilton Friday.

Ciarra Holm batted 4 for 6 with a home run, Ashley Trueblood went 4 for 5 and Carlee Brown and Courtney Murray each batted 3 for 3 for the Wildkats, who tallied 24 hits. Madi Fetters also homered for Columbia Falls, which scored in every inning, including eight runs in the first and seven in the seventh.

Defending state champion Polson lost 5-0 in its quarterfinal against Frenchtown, but rebounded with a 5-3 win over host Belgrade in a loser-out contest.

Heidi Rausch led Polson against Belgrade, batting 3 for 4 with a home run.

Frenchtown pitcher Morgan Ray hurled a 1-hit shutout in Polson’s loss. Hannah Potter broke up the no-hitter with a single in the seventh inning. Ray finished with 15 strikeouts and one walk.

Holly Jacobs and Abby Indreland each had two hits for Frenchtown.

The loss to Frenchtown snapped Polson’s 19-game winning streak.

Columbia Falls plays Frenchtown today in the unbeaten semifinal at 9 a.m.

The winner advances to the championship game while the loser will play the winner between Polson and Hamilton for the other spot in the title game.
