State track: Bigfork's Morley places second in 1,600

BOZEMAN — Bigfork’s Makena Morley finished second in the 1,600 on the final day of the Class B state track meet Saturday.

Morley was the the defending state champion in that event, plus the 800 and 3,200. 

She finished second in all three events behind Chiara Warner of Townsend. Warner set an all-class state record in the 1,600 with a time of 4:48.24. Heidi Lane of Great Falls C.M. Russell held the old mark of 4:55.18 set in 2002.

On Friday, Warner set Class B state records in the 800 (2:10.52) and 3,200 (10:35.85).

Morley accounted for 24 of Bigfork’s 29 points. The Valkyries finished eighth.

The Bigfork boys, 19 points, finished ninth. The Vikings 1,600 relay team placed third on the final day.

Manhattan, 73, and Plains, 71, claimed boys and girls state team championships.

Red Lodge, 50, finished second for the boys with Ronan-St. Ignatius, 48, in third place.

The Eureka girls, nine points, were 19th.
