Legion baseball: Libby splits with Mission Valley B Mariners
LIBBY — Dramatic finishes highlighted American Legion baseball action Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader between the Mission Valley B Mariners and the Libby Loggers (8-7 overall).
Mission Valley used a four-run eighth inning to claim a 9-5 victory while Libby scored in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 win in the other contest.
Luke Haggerty, who opened the bottom of the seventh with a single and moved to second on a single by Jared Winslow, scored the game-winning run on a single by Micah Germany.
Will Reichel and Banks Stocking both had two hits for Libby.
Reichel had two RBIs.
Andrew Clary went 3 for 4 for Mission Valley and drove in three runs.
Derrik Peel led the Mariners in their victory, going 4 for 5 with two RBIs.
Bryce Cullen and Aaron Rasmussen also had two RBIs each for the Mariners.
Winslow had three hits and one RBI for Libby.
On Saturday, Germany doubled in two runs in the first inning and Reichel and Winslow both had RBI singles in the fourth inning as Libby topped Cranbrook’s Bandits in a nonconference contest in Canada.
Reichel finished with two hits and scored two runs.
Oliver Grupenhoff, Dylan Berget and Cameron Burkes also had hits for Libby.
“Our bats came alive,” Libby coach Kelly Morford said of the Cranbrook outing. “Things are starting to come around a little bit for us.”
Winslow pitched the first four innings, allowing three hits and striking out five. Germany and Austin Marshall finished up.
Libby hosts Kootenai Valley for two league games on Tuesday, starting at 5:35 p.m.
Mission Valley B is back in action today hosting the Missoula Pioneers at O’Malley Park for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
