Stumptown Art Studio offers summer classes

| May 29, 2013 5:00 PM

Stumptown Art Studio offers opportunities for children and adults to sharpen their artistic abilities this summer.

Five-day art camps for youths begin the week of June 17 with Wacky, Wild Clay Animals for ages 7 to 13. Garden Decorations is the theme of the June 24-28 camp for ages 9 to 15. In both sessions, clay is the medium and items such as garden gnomes, bird baths and garden stones will be created.

Coming up later in July and August are six more camps for ages 3 to 11. These camps include Swirling Tree Art, The World of Puppet Theatre, Naturally Creative Kids, Latin American Art, Hot Fun in the Summertime and Up High in the Sky.

Beginning June 18 is the newest addition to Stumptown Art Studio’s summer program. Yurt Art is a nature based, off-site art camp that will combine art and nature for age groups 4 through 6, 7 to 9 and 10 through 12.

Adults have a choice of 15 workshop throughout the summer, beginning with Garden Totems by guest clay artist Heidi Haugen June 10, 12 and 17. In this three-day mini workshop, students will make their own 3-foot garden totem by constructing hand-built beads and a topper.

Other adult workshops in June, July and August include the Cultural and Art History Club, glass fusing, precious metal clay and Canvas & Cocktails.

A clay class in the Clayground with resident potter Stephanie Seguin can be arranged to suit your schedule. Included are two hours of instruction in wheel throwing or other techniques.

The Windows On Whitefish mosaic classes continue this summer as well. Beginning students will be able to make a 24-inch mosaic fish, and experienced students can make a hanging garden charm. Upon completing a class, all students are invited to return to work on the third big window of the WOW community art project.
