Man reportedly kills self after failing sobriety test
A Kalispell man is dead after fleeing from a failed breath alcohol test and apparently shooting himself inside his home.
According to the Kalispell Police Department, the man was at Compliance Monitoring Systems at 8 a.m. this morning to take one of his two court-mandated breath tests as part of the 24/7 Sobriety Program. When he failed the test and fled, police were notified.
Officers responded to the man’s Seventh Avenue West North home, where they heard a single gunshot from inside as they approached the front door. They then backed away, set up a perimeter, and called in negotiators.
When negotiators failed to make contact, the department’s Special Response Team responded in the BEAR armored police vehicle. Team officers eventually entered the home and found the suspect dead of a gunshot wound.
The incident remains under investigation by Kalispell police, who are withholding the suspect’s name at this time.
