Meeting to look at impacts from B.C. mining

There will be a public meeting June 6 in Libby to discuss coal mining in the British Columbia portion of the Kootenai River and its impacts on water quality in Lake Koocanusa.

The public forum is at 2 p.m. at the Ponderosa Room at Libby City Hall, 952 E.  Spruce Street.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the Kootenai River Network are hosting the meeting.

A panel of experts from Montana Department of Environmental Quality, Fish, Wildlife and Parks, British Columbia Ministry of Environment and Teck Coal will discuss the impacts of selenium on the Lake Koocanusa fishery, ongoing monitoring efforts, and plans to reduce selenium associated with continued mining operations.
