Woman shot; two arrested
Two people are in jail after a woman was shot at a Polson apartment complex Sunday morning.
After getting a report about a domestic disturbance, officers with Polson Police, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Flathead Tribal Police responded to the 1000 block of Fourth Street West at about 10:30 a.m. They found a 29-year-old woman lying outside the complex with severe injuries.
Officers were able to get the victim away from the scene and to an ambulance so she could be transported to a hospital. They were informed that a firearm was involved in the incident, but it wasn’t immediately confirmed that the woman had been shot, Polson Police Chief Wade Nash said.
Neighboring apartments were evacuated as officers attempted to make contact with suspects inside one apartment. They ended talking with the suspects through a window, ordering them out of the apartment.
The suspects complied and were taken into custody. Michael James Gardipe, 35, of Polson was charged with assault with a weapon and Alisha McDanal, 34, of Polson was charged with intimidation.
Nash said that after medical personnel were contacted, it was determined the victim had indeed been shot. She was taken to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
“She is alive,” Nash said Monday morning. “It wasn’t a life-threatening injury, but it was a very serious injury.”
An investigation is ongoing, and several people are being sought for questioning. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Polson Police detectives at 883-7277.
