New slate of classes at Glacier Art Academy

| November 6, 2013 6:00 PM

Glacier Art Academy offers classes for kids and adults.

Kalispell artists Jennifer Li and Nicholas Oberling opened the art school in March. Glacier Art Academy offers sessions in a variety of media for artists of all ages and abilities.

Current classes available at the school include:

Tuesday portrait studio

Li teaches this session for adults from 6 to 8 p.m. weekly. Artists are invited to enjoy a glass of wine and a bite to eat while drawing or painting a live portrait model. All levels are welcome, and the academy will provide materials for the session for those who are just starting out.

Sign up for an entire month for $120, or RSVP to drop by one evening. Cost per session is $30 or $50 per couple.

After-school art classes

These classes for children, taught by Li, take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Cost is $120 a month to attend two days a week, or $60 to attend one month of either Tuesdays or Thursdays. Individual classes may be attended if arranged in advance. Siblings get a 50 percent discount.

All materials are provided.

Studio oil painting

Oberling teaches this class from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays through Nov. 16.

The session is open to beginners and advanced students interested in the classical approach to art education. The session covers:

• Learning the palette and concepts of color organization

• Value gradations

• Composition

• Painterly drawing and basic proportion

• Building a light effect and atmospheric progression

• Study of the masters

• Oil painting techniques

• Mind over camera

• Learning to use black as a color, not as a value

Private oil-painting tutorials

Li offers private sessions for those who don’t want to be part of a class. The sessions allow artists to work on their personal artistic goals in a safe, nonjudgmental environment.

The art studio is located at 29 Third St. E., Kalispell, in the southwest corner of the KM Building. For more information, call 257-3801 or 260-5666, email contact@glacierartacademy.com, or visit www.glacierartacademy.com.
