Man injured by rifle shot
A man was hospitalized in Lincoln County Nov. 7 after a rifle discharged into his leg.
According to a news release, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a call from St. John’s Lutheran Hospital at about 2:37 a.m. advising a man had just been admitted with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Deputies responded to the hospital, where they discovered that Benjamin Jay Basham, 26, had been driving around in the Troy area with his friend, 23-year-old Domingo Jose Palafox, when a rifle in the car was moved, causing it to discharge.
The bullet struck Basham in the right leg near the ankle, causing a substantial wound. Palafox then drove Basham to the hospital for emergency treatment.
The incident remains under investigation.
