Stuck hunter gets himself out of the woods

A hunter contacted the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after getting his truck stuck in the Essex area. He said he was walking out and was about 6 miles from his truck. Deputies were then unable to make contact with the man, who later called back to report he had gotten a ride and was on his way back to Browning.

A Wagon Wheel Road man in Whitefish complained after a group of Jehovah’s Witnesses trespassed on his property to knock on his door and told him they weren’t trespassing because the “no trespassing” sign was not on the individual lot. He was advised that people who reside on the private road, as he does, do not need to post individual “no trespassing” signs and to call back if unwanted people were still coming to his door after being told to leave.

A passerby reported a suspicious man in a U.S. 2 East parking lot, who got out of a green van and relieved himself in the middle of the lot, then walked around the building several times and looked through the back fence.

A woman accidentally dialed 911 while trying to be helpful after finding a cellphone on a plane. When she turned it on to try and find out who it belonged to, it automatically dialed the emergency number.

A Wengen Place man in Whitefish with a stray cat problem asked about getting a cat trap.


The Kalispell Police Department received a trio of theft reports regarding money stolen from different agencies.

A manager from a gaming consultant company reported a local casino was missing a $5,000 deposit.

The manager of a South Main Street business reported two days’ worth of deposits totaling nearly $2,500 was missing.

Money was reported stolen from a Windward Way agency.

A frightened motorist reported two youths in a green truck driving down East Idaho Street and waving a handgun around, pointing it at people.

A passing motorist stopped to check on a very drunken man lying in the middle of Sixth Street East. The man was found to have sat down to take a break while headed to his home, which was only a couple of blocks away.

A concerned passerby reported a very drunken man in all black stumbling down Seventh Avenue East. The passerby said the man was almost hit by another vehicle because of his dark clothing.

A drunken man was first reported trying to get into a woman’s Fifth Avenue East home before another person reported he stumbled into the road, fell down multiple times and walked right in front of a car. The man was confirmed to be very drunk and on his way to a friend’s house.

A woman called police to report her concern after receiving a call from a man in New York wanting her to get him out of jail. She believed the call to be a scam.

A motorist was reported for nearly hitting a horse that was running down the middle of Willow Glen Drive.

A Third Avenue East woman called about her neighbor’s cats, which she said keep coming in her yard.


A disgruntled now-former employee of a U.S. 93 South motel was the basis for a pair of calls to the Whitefish Police Department Thursday. He was first reported at 1:54 p.m., when he threatened the owner after being fired. At that point it was noted that if he returned, he would be arrested for trespassing. He was again reported at 7:13 p.m. after he returned, drunk. An officer made sure the man made it home safely.

A very drunken couple were separated after the woman started throwing punches at a Fox Hollow Lane home.

A drunken man was seen crashing his bicycle on Spokane Avenue.


A Seventh Avenue East North resident called the Columbia Falls Police Department after a small bear wandered into the back yard of a neighboring home. The bear scampered off before anyone could respond.

An officer was unable to locate a group of three men and a woman, all wearing white face paint, reported walking down Meadow Lake Boulevard.
